TONY GWYNN

Tony Gwynn had a very successful major league career while playing all 20 years with the San Diego Padres. Considered by many to be the best and most consistent hitter of all time, Tony was an eight-time batting champion, received five Gold Glove Awards and was selected to the All Star Team 15 times. Tony ranks third on the list of players to reach the 3000 hits milestone in the fewest number of games.

To honor Tony for all of his accomplishments the Padres retired the number 19 jersey and the street that the Padres stadium is located was changed to Tony Gwynn Drive. Tony is extremely committed to community service and has established the Tony Gwynn Foundation to help fund numerous organizations that support children.

Tony continues to be part of baseball and coaches the San Diego Aztecs university team. As his batting stats indicate Tony understands the importance of the right grip. While Tony Gwynn, Jr. didn't enjoy the best of seasons at San Diego State playing for his father, the bloodlines are too good to pass up. Tony Jr. is an extremely athletic ballplayer with great natural baseball instincts. He is a very good defensive centerfielder, shows good speed, and has a good eye at the plate. He does have a nice, level left-handed swing like his father Tony, even if he didn't light things up at the plate. He doesn't hit for much power, and probably never will, but he should hit enough in the gap to use his speed to log plenty of 2Bs & 3Bs.)
Tony Jr. was very influential in Tony Sr.’s decision to play his last season in San Diego and preserve the 20 seasons/1 team distinction.

STEVE FINLEY

Since 1989, Steve has had a successful career in the major leagues. Known as an excellent situational hitter, Steve a 300+ hitter is also a five time Gold Glove winner. Steve is one of only six elite players to reach Major League Baseballs 300-300 club, which requires 300 career home runs and 300 career stolen bases.

Steve has twice led the National League in both triples and games played. He also ranked among the top ten in National League MVP voting. Away from the field he is an active member in his community and has formed a charitable foundation that focuses on encouraging kids to stay in school, earn a degree and live drug free.
